What the beta stores

HANYULEX stores a randomly generated learner ID, learning progress, practice responses, revisions, and teacher feedback on the student’s device. The beta does not ask for a name, email address, phone number, or advertising identifier.

AI-assisted feedback

When a learner requests AI feedback on a written response, the response, task instructions, target vocabulary, and relevant dictionary content are sent securely to the application’s feedback service, which uses OpenAI as its AI provider, for processing. Xiaoyu’s typed Theme dialogue replies are produced the same way. The learner ID is not sent. Do not enter sensitive personal information in a practice response.

Audio and network access

The app downloads AI-generated instructional audio as it is requested and may cache previously used learning materials on the device. In Theme dialogue, microphone audio is sent through an encrypted real-time connection to OpenAI’s real-time voice model so it can understand and answer the learner directly. HANYULEX does not save the learner’s recording or display a transcript of it; the local learning record only notes that a voice turn was completed. Network status is used only to show whether online features are available.

Control and deletion

Learners can remove locally stored progress and responses by choosing “Reset progress” in the app. Removing the app or clearing this site’s browser data also removes its device-local data. Learners can save a copy of their progress as a file from My progress and choose whether to share that file with a teacher.

Children and classroom use

AI features are provided through OpenAI; see OpenAI’s policies. Teachers and schools are responsible for deciding whether the beta is appropriate for their learners and for providing any notices or permissions required by their institution.

Policy changes

This policy may be updated as the beta gains accounts, cloud synchronization, or additional classroom features. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
